Duties, Responsibilities & Other

Under direction, applies full competency in conventional engineering work and broad knowledge of precedents in highway design on SCDOT projects. On design assignments, understands how to clearly convey the design intent to engineering drawings and specifications. On assignments involving engineering investigations and planning work, has a firm grasp of the fundaments of engineering processes. Upholds engineering ethics and standards of conduct.

  • Plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
  • Performs preliminary engineering design and/or reviews the design and drafting work of junior engineers, designs or CAD technicians.
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of final plans and reports and submits them for approval.
  • Conducts or oversees personnel involved in engineering investigations and planning work.
  • Coordinates work with other engineers and professionals within and outside own discipline, and with support services staff.
  • May occasionally assist in the management of projects.
  • Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials or procedures, or difficult coordination requirements.
  • Most assignments are performed independently, making decisions on technical problems and methods. Receives approval on proposed plans for projects and general direction as to results expected or unusual problems. Cannot sign and seal engineering plans.
  • Coordinates with our guides and/or review junior professionals, technicians, and others who assist in specific assignments.
  • Interfaces with senior technical professionals and technical managers.

Qualifications: 

  • Strong preference to candidates with demonstrated design experience with microstation and geopak. 
  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technologies is preferred

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree preferred.  AA in engineerig technology or drafting required.
  • Minimum of 5 - 9+ years of professional experience. 
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.

Performance Expectations

  • Complete Annual Individual Training Program
  • Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
  • Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
  • Complete other duties as required/assigned
  • Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target(85% typical)
  • Attend bi-weekly(or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects/tasks
  • Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
  • Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants as required
  • Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
  • Compare field data to base plan
  • Design and draft construction drawings using standard engineering fundamentals for approval by Federal, state and local agencies
  • Gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes and photographs as needed
  • Read and interpret technical documents needed for performance of job
  • Review and interpret design manuals and details from local jurisdictions
  • Size and specify design requirements
