KCI is building a ong term team of low to mid level experienced tansportation construction inspectors in the Hampton Roads Area.  VDOT certs required.  Additional training and recerts may be provided as needed.

Duties, Responsibilities & Other

  • This position will provide assistance to experienced  inspectors on active roadway and bridge construction projects and support and train less experienced materials techs and inspectors.  It is a mid-range inspector requiring 2 to 8 years experience in the heavy civil and transportation fields. 
  • Other experience with electrical and mechanicall systems is a plus. 
  • This is an mid-level postion in the construction transportation skilled labor industry to inspect and verify contractor compliance with approved drawings and specifications. 
  • Upon successful demonstration of required skills and aptitude candidates will be eligible for more senior assignments and positions.  
  • Selected persons will provide inspections of various work activities for VDOT road and bridge construction, that candidate is qualified and trained to observe.   Will also be required to perform materrials testing primarily  soils and aggregate density tests and concrete tests.  
  • Work will be nearby  on and around active highways, roadways, and water/land bridge construction.
  • Must prepare daily  detailed and timely reports to document construction progress, inspection and testing results.
  • Prepare necessary records and measure field quantities, conduct field tests and other tests that may be required to determine contractors compliance with contract specifications.
  • Requires construction aptitude and experience reading  plans and specifications for heavy civil projects.   Constuction experience is required.
  • KCI will assist with attaining additional VDOT certifications and training when  required. 
  • Must prepare detailed and timely dialy reports to document construction progress, inspection and testing results.
  • Prepare necessary records and measure field quantities, conduct field tests and other tests that may be required to determine contractors compliance with contract specifications.
  • Must be knowledeable and capable working with computer apps and writing reports in excel, work, pdf and/or other project management softwares. 
  • Must have some VDOT inspector certifications.  Intermediate Work Zone, ACI concrete testing, Soils and Aggregates density required.  Other VDOT certs highlly preferred.
  • Must be competent in reading reinforcing steel drawings and verifying correct placement in field prior to concrete placement. 

Qualifications

  • High School diploma.  Associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology or applicable field preferred.
  • Minimum of 0 - 2 years of experience required.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.

  • Accurately records and reports daily forms per project requirements
  • Communicates effectively with client, contractor, staff, and supervisor
  • Proactively resolves problems at the lowest level
  • Adheres to project scope, schedule, and budget
  • Reviews all work for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting
  • Submits accurate time sheets, mileage and expense reports on time each week
  • Reviews jobsite safety daily and takes immediate action to document and resolve issues
  • Understands OSHA Safety Standards and KCI corporate policies and follows them at all times
  • Maintains all required certifications and participates in training courses as required
  • Understands all applicable industry standards for project and performs all tasks per standards and client requirements
