Duties, Responsibilities & Other

KCI’s Nashville office works on a wide variety of exciting, high profile projects and is looking for talented staff to help continue our leadership role in the traffic/transportation consulting field.

The position requires 4-10 years experience in traffic engineering and will involve working on a wide variety of transportation projects including roadway, intersection and roundabout studies/design, traffic signal design, ITS planning and design, traffic signal timing and operations studies, Traffic Impact Analysis/Studies, traffic safety studies, traffic modeling, traffic calming plans and other traffic engineering studies.  These duties will be performed under the supervision of the practice leader.


Experience in ITS, Complete Streets design, and bikeway design is desirable.


Experience with generating proposals, client development and marketing is preferred. Travel to project sites and client meetings may be required

  • Experience and competency in Synchro/Sim Traffic, HCS, MicroStation and/or AutoCAD and familiarity with AASHTO, MUTCD and NACTO standards. VISSIM, SIDRA and Vistro modeling experience is desirable. Good problem solving, communication, and technical writing skills are required.
  • Minimum of 4-10 years of experience in traffic engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required, E.I.T. required, P.E. or ability to obtain P.E. within one year required
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required. Master's degree preferred.  
  • Minimum of 2 - 4 years of experience in a design related field.

Performance Expectations

  • Complete Annual Individual Training Program
  • Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
  • Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
  • Complete other duties as required/assigned
  • Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target(80-85% typical)
  • Attend bi-weekly(or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects/tasks
  • Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
  • Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants as required
  • Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
  • Compare field data to base plan
  • Conduct site visits and gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes and photographs as needed
  • Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications and cost estimates for review and approval
  • Prepare preliminary concept designs and submit for approval
  • Read and interpret technical documents needed for performance of job
  • Review and approve shop drawings
