Duties, Responsibilities & Other

  • Design standard items including design calculations.  Knowledgeable of requirementsof various federal, state and county agencies.
  • A sucsessfull candidate will demonstrate experience in performing distribution design for local utility company, including preparing site plans and construction drawings for both overhead and underground facilities. Familiarity with NESC and local utility company pole attachment and design standards also required.
  • Must possess the ability to learn various software programs for design and asset management functions. 
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
  • Use electronic devices and hand tools to collect and record data for design and permitting.
  • Perform field site review to collect data on proposed OSP (outside Plant) telecommunications design routes
  • Responsible for managing all engineering activities associated with building new network infrastructure.
  • Coordinates project activities and schedules with contractor and customer.
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches with some guidance.
  • Valid Driver's License and clean driving record.  Own vehicle. Overtime required.
  • Engineering conduit design of any combination of aerial, buried or underground cable.
  • Work with Cadd Team develop base mapping, permit drawings, construction drawings and as built drawings. 
  • Prepare permit applications, submit and track permits. 
  • Work with customer to approve routing and schedule for proposed routes.
  • Research existing utilities along routes. 
  • Extensive fiber optic cable OSP engineering and knowledge required. 
  • Must be proficient in Google Earth kml and kmz files, and excel, Autocad knowledge is required. 
  • Will be responsible to work with Cadd Team to meet schedules and follow customer standards for cadd drawings.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.  AA in engineering technology or drafting required or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 - 4 years of professional experience.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.

 

Performance Expectations

  • Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
  • Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
  • Complete other duties as required/assigned
  • Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target(85% typical)
  • Attend bi-weekly(or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects/tasks
  • Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
  • Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants as required
  • Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
  • Compare field data to base plan
  • Design and draft construction drawings using standard engineering fundamentals for approval by Federal, state and local agencies
  • Gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes and photographs as needed
  • Read and interpret technical documents needed for performance of job
  • Review and interpret design manuals and details from local jurisdictions
  • Size and specify design requirements
  • Complete Annual Individual Training Program
