Duties, Responsibilities & Other

Duties

We are hiring Invasive Species Technicians to travel to multiple stream/wetland/forest restoration sites to locate, identify, and manually or chemically treat invasive species. Two technicians will be hired to work from our Indianapolis, IN office and one technician will work from our La Crosse, WI office. Travel throughout the state with multiple overnights is required for these positions. In addition to invasive species control, the positions may include opportunities to work on the active construction of restoration sites and post-restoration data collection. These are full-time, seasonal positions with anticipated 40+ hours/week beginning approximately May 1st and ending September 30th.

 

Experience

0-2 years professional experience related to ecological restoration and invasive species control.

 

Skills

Knowledge of invasive species treatment techniques and ability to identify Midwest invasive species a plus.

Strong navigational skills to both find the restoration sites and navigate within the sites is ideal.

A rigorous work ethic, organizational ability, constant communication and time management skills are required for this position.

The ability to learn new field skills quickly will be critical in this position.
The ideal candidate will be able to think for themselves and work with minimal guidance at times.

 

Degrees / License

BS in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, or equivalent.
Current herbicide applicator license or Registered Technician (RT) status or ability to obtain RT from the Indiana Office of State Chemist.

 

Other

Ability to work in a team environment, with individuals in other geographies is a prerequisite of this opportunity.
Overnight travel (typically Monday through Thursday) will be required.

Must be able to lift weights up to 50lbs and wear personal protective equipment.

These are field based positions and successful applicants will be exposed to various weather conditions, precipitation events, biting/stinging insects, and other outdoor hazards.

Pre-employment drug testing is required as a condition of employment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required.  
  • Minimum of 0 -2 years of professional experience.  Appropriate professional certification preferred.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.

Performance Expectations

  • Complete Annual Individual Training Program
  • Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
  • Attend meetings with clients as required
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
  • Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
  • Complete other duties as required/assigned
  • Assist with preparation of proposals and qualifications in repsonse to RFPs and RFQs
  • Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target(85% typical)
  • Attend bi-weekly(or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects/tasks
  • Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
  • Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
  • Assess and document potential project impacts
  • Collect required field data using proper protocols and techniques
  • Lead field surveys
  • Lead the development of and assemble organized, clear, and cohesive technical reports
  • Prepare avoidance or minimization recommendations
  • Prepare mitigation strategy and plan as required
  • Process field data for inclusion in reports and deliverables
  • Review and interpret lab results
