Overview

The Control System Programmer/Technician will be responsible for the design of instrumentation and control systems with a focus on system integration. Majority of projects will be in water and wastewater facilities which may include pumping stations, water tanks, and treatment plants. The applicant should have experience designing and troubleshooting control equipment within these or similar environments. The applicant is expected to take on a leadership role in projects from concept through operational readiness, program and integrate complex control systems, and conduct hands-on troubleshooting of control systems

Duties, Responsibilities & Other

  • Provide programming and integration services in conjunction with controls modifications and upgrades. This may include adding control points to existing PLC/HMI systems, providing minor modifications to existing programming, or programming devices from the ground up.
  • Ability to read P&ID diagrams and panel drawings for complex process systems
  • Design and integration of PLC, HMI, and SCADA based systems
  • Design and integration of OT networks
  • Provide field troubleshooting services of instrumentation, control systems, and electrical systems as required to assist clients with equipment and controls issues.
  • Participate in limited business development activities as assigned, including participation in proposals, development of scopes, and development of project budgets
  • Documented experience with PLC programming with one or more of the following: Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, or other processors
  • Documented programming experience with one or more of the following: Wonderware, RS View, FactoryTalk, ClearSCADA, VTScada, or other graphic based software.

 

POSSIBLE RESPONSIBILITIES BASED ON SKILLSET PROVIDED

  • Design of motor control schematics including VFDs and solid-state soft starters
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates for design projects.
  • Perform field data collection in conjunction with design projects.
  • Prepare studies such as conditional assessments and feasibility studies.
  • Track and maintain responsibility for project budgets and schedules as assigned.
  • Provide quality assurance/quality control services to review the work of peers.

 

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or GED required. BS degree preferred or equivalent years of experience.
  • Minimum of 4 - 8 years of experience.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.

 

Performance Expectations

  • Complete Annual Individual Training Program
  • Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
  • Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
  • Complete other duties as required/assigned
  • Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target(80-85% typical)
  • Attend bi-weekly(or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects/tasks
  • Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
  • Consult and coordinate with other practices as required
  • Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
  • Compare field data to design plans
  • Conduct site visits and gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes and photographs as needed
  • Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications and cost estimates for review and approval
  • Prepare preliminary concept designs and submit for approval
  • Read and interpret technical documents needed for performance of job
  • Review and approve shop drawings
