Duties, Responsibilities & Other

• Design Phase leader in the development of multiple construction plans for transportation/roadway projects, providing guidance and supervision to junior engineers.
• Coordinates with project managers while planning scheduling and coordinating design phase tasks related to project scope and deliverables with clients, sub-consultants, and internal team.
• Work with all departments within the company to develop client relationships that lead to sustainable profitable revenue.
• Develop plans and specifications for all aspects of highway design including, but not limited to, geometrics, right-of-way, drainage, traffic control, and utility coordination.
• Responsible for quality control, checking computations while reviewing design work and engineering drawings performed by others.
• Analyze and address technical problems which may involve conventional engineering practice, but also may require innovative solutions with unique approaches.
• Candidate must have worked on all phases of design and have been involved in industry related services of a project.
• Broad knowledge of current design policies and practices and the ability to effectively apply this knowledge to the design process.
• Good problem solving, communication, and technical writing skills are required.
• Candidate must be reliable, committed to completing multiple task, have strong time management skills.
• Candidate must have experience with Open Roads/InRoads
• Attendance at field meetings may be required.
• Some overnight travel required as well as travel to other KCI and client offices as needed.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. Appropriate graduate level work. Master's degree preferred.  
  • 6 - 10 years of professional experience.  PE Required.
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.

Performance Expectations

  • Submit for approval and deliver timely annual Employee Performance Appraisals for assigned staff
  • Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
  • Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
  • Manage work routine of all assigned staff and assign job activities as required
  • Complete other duties as required/assigned
  • Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target(75%-80% typical)
  • Attend bi-weekly(or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects/tasks
  • Chart and provide task performance results
  • Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
  • Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants as required
  • Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
  • Prepare interpractice agreements and/or outside requests as required
  • Provide technical project and staff oversight
  • Serve as task manager on select projects
  • Compare field data to base plan
  • Conduct site visits and gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes and photographs as needed
  • Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications and cost estimates for review and approval
  • Prepare preliminary concept designs and submit for approval
  • Read and interpret technical documents needed for performance of job
  • Review and approve shop drawings
  • Complete Annual Individual Training Program
