Duties, Responsibilities & Other

KCI’s cost estimating and scheduling practice is a unique service within KCI which develops detailed “production-based” construction cost estimates and schedules for a variety of clients. These clients include owners, contractors and design firms throughout North America. We specialize in contractor-style cost estimates utilizing HCSS HeavyBid. Depending on the project, our estimating process requires various tasks such as performing detailed quantity takeoffs, constructability analysis, Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules utilizing Primavera P6 software, risk analysis, etc. to develop a cost estimate. The strength of our team comes from our collective years of experience in the construction industry. 


As a Lead Estimator for KCI, your role is to lead a team of estimators in the development of construction cost estimates for complex heavy civil construction projects. This role requires a deep understanding of construction methodologies, construction costs and durations. This position will require close collaboration and coordination with the chief estimator, project managers, the practice leader, clients and/or estimating teams from other firms.

 

Main Responsibilites: 

  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
  • Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work
  • Prepares bid packages including but not limited to comparison and analysis of competitive subcontractor and supplier bids
  • Utilize HCSS estimating software to develop a comprehensive project estimate
  • Perform pre-construction duties and meetings with Clients, Owners, Contractors and Engineers

Preferred Experience:

  • 15-20 years of experience is preferred
  • BS in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field
  • Proficient in HCSS HeavyBid or similar estimating software
  • Working knowledge of Primavera P6
  • Working knowledge of quantity takeoff software such as Bluebeam Revu or similar
  • AutoCAD experience preferable
  • Experience working for Heavy Civil contractors in the field preferable
  • Willingness to relocate to Duluth, GA office preferred

Qualifications

Education and/or Skills Required:
• Minimum of 10 years of experience within the heavy civil industry.
• Bachelor’s degree Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
• Proven track record of successfully estimating large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Proficiency in cost estimating software (HCSS HeavyBid or similar).
• Proficiency in common industry quantity takeoff software (Bluebeam Revu or similar).
• Excellent public speaking, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Good communication and technical writing skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically.


Education and/or Work Experience Preferred:
• Working knowledge of Primavera P6 scheduling software.
• AutoCAD or MicroStation experience.
• Experience working for heavy civil contractors in the field on projects.
