Duties, Responsibilities & Other

Tasks: Invasive species control primarily by cut stump.
Location: Candidate should be based in Bloomington or within 30 minutes of the I-69 Section 4 corridor (Bloomington to Bloomfield). Candidates from farther may be considered but additional mileage will not be compensated.

Conditions: Primarily working alone, occasionally with another technician. Sites are very brushy and often thick with thorns, desmodium (seed/bur), agrimony (seed/bur), etc. Sites may require up to a mile of hiking to access with the majority of the access being off trail. Once onsite, there are no trails and candidate will be expected to hike through brush and minimize damage to native vegetation (no clearing trails).
Expectations: Candidate will-

    • Have at minimum an Indiana Pesticide Applicator Registered Technician or can acquire before the start of work
    • Have a valid driver's license
    • Provide their own vehicle which they are comfortable driving to project sites which may be on gravel roads and in various states of maintenance
    • Be willing to transport herbicide (less than 2 gallons) in a provided airtight container
    • Be willing to store their supplies when not in use
    • On days (occasional) when the candidate is expected to be in the Indianapolis office, compensation for drive time and mileage is not available
    • Comfortable working alone in the field and have experience doing so
      • On occasion, work with a partner
    • Be able to read a map and utilize Field Maps (ESRI) to determine location and correct treatment area
    • Be able to hike off-trail with equipment for invasive management
    • Be able to identify several species of common invasive species
    • Be able to safely and effectively operate loppers and hand saws
    • Be able to operate equipment and utilize chemicals in a safe manner
    • Be able to tolerate Indiana weather and thick, thorny brush
    • Report daily to a supervisor
    • Create tracks with a GPS (provided) and submit daily treatment records via Field Maps

 

This is a part time temporary position. Work schedule is flexible and work can be completed on the weekends if desired, but not required. Expected hours are at least 10 per week when weather allows but not to exceed 32 hours a week. If weather does not allow for work within a week then hours may be zero.

Qualifications

Education and/or Skills Required:

  • This is an entry-level position
  • Highschool Diploma/GED

Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Required:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to maintain required certifications.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.
