Overview

KCI’s Ecological Restoration and Resilience practice is seeking a motivated Senior Landscape Designer to lead designs and support our growing team.  Our practice is looking for individuals with experience in ecological restoration design, budget management, staff development, client interaction and project management for public and private sector clients.  The position offers a hybrid work arrangement with on site work Tuesday through Thursday in our Sparks, MD headquarters or in Fulton, MD office.

Duties, Responsibilities & Other

The Senior Landscape Designer responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage multiple ecological design projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery within budget.
  • Work closely with project team members, clients, and agencies to maintain project schedules and resolve any issues.
  • Achieve or exceed individual utilization targets.
  • Delegate work and oversee the development of junior staff members.
  • Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements and participate in quality control and plan reviews.
  • Complete other duties as required or assigned
  • In a supervisory capacity plans, develops, coordinates, and directs several large and important projects or a project of major scope and importance.  
  • Potential to manage 1 to 3 direct reports.
  • Assists in proposals, negotiations, and presentations.
  • Work with all departments within the company to develop client relationships that lead to sustainable profitable revenue.
  • Lead geomorphological assessments including non-datum survey; photo documentation; and sediment sampling.
  • Develop conceptual designs and reports articulating alternatives and reflecting them via ArcGIS, MicroStation, or AutoCAD.
  • Estimate credits based on the Bay Protocols for Urban Stream Restoration or Living Shorelines.
  • Estimate functional feet and buffer credits using the Maryland Stream Mitigation Framework.
  • Develop detailed engineering stream restoration or living shoreline designs including plans, reports, specifications, engineer’s estimate.
  • Oversee construction and post construction performance monitoring with associated asbuilt and monitoring report development.
  • Functioning efficiently with minimal guidance will be expected. Independent work, organizational ability, regular communication, and time management skills are required for this position.

Qualifications

Education and/or Work Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring Landscape Architecture projects.
  • Proven experience in project management roles, with a track record of successful project delivery.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to construction management, quality assurance, and safety protocols.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Pre-employment drug screening and background check are conditions of employment. Motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.

Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Preferred: 

  • Registered Landscape Architect (RLA) eligibility
  • Additional industry certifications
